Jakobssons Glögg & Kanel - Expert Review

Gotlands Julesnus. Now, known as Jakobsson’s Glögg & Kanel (Glögg & Cinnamon). There’s just some traditions that feel right around the holidays: setting up the Christmas tree, wrapping presents, cooking a big meal, watching Die Hard, and enjoying this snus! If you’re not familiar with Glögg, it’s kind of like a spiced wine. I usually make mine with red wine (like a Cabernet), and add in cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom. If I can find it, sometimes I’ll add some star anise. My wife is Norwegian, and I know they sometimes will add aquavit to theirs (or, substitute vodka if you can’t find aquavit). It’s an interesting drink. It’s also one that feels just right when served warm at the holidays! This snus really captures that flavor.

Opening the can, the wonderful aroma of Glögg greets you. I notice clear notes of clove first. Right behind, subtle notes of cinnamon and ginger mix in. The portions are great. Moist, but not super moist. It has a steady release of flavor, and a bold flavor presence. The portions fit comfortably under the lip, and feel soft against the gum!

The taste is the star of this one. It is a fantastic combination of flavors. The clove is what I pick up the most, but it seems almost evenly balanced with the cinnamon. Ginger and nutmeg hang out in the background, and I almost notice a faint citrusy touch in there, as well. The tobacco base is detectable, but mild.

In terms of strength, a perfect delivery of regular strength nicotine. The flavor lasts quite a while, usually up to almost an hour. That is longer than most regular portions, but I find Gotlandssnus portion material to have longer lasting flavor than most others.

During the holidays, there are some things that just feel right. And this from the Jakobssons line is one of them. For many snusers, it’s a holiday tradition to buy some Julesnus and enjoy it throughout the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years holidays. If you’ve never had this one, you owe it to yourself to grab some for the holiday season!

I have loved this snus since I first started using snus almost 14 years ago. Every year, this is a holiday tradition. Watching Die Hard, enjoying some Julesnus, and making some Glögg. This snus is a must try. But remember, it’s a limited edition, so make sure and grab some extra cans to throw in your freezer!
