General Mackmyra Loose - Expert Review

General Mackmyra originally launched in 2016. This snus was made through a collaboration with Swedish Match and the popular Swedish whisky-maker, Mackmyra. The snus was released in two formats: original portion, and loose! Generak Mackmyra was made by Master Blenders from Swedish Match Lars Jonsson and Mattias Schemer and the master blender from Mackmyra, Angela D’Orazio. It is flavored with Mackmyra's flavorful Svensk Ek whisky. This General snus comes in the portion format, but today we’re going to be checking out the loose variant!

Opening the can, you’ll encounter the rich, dark tobacco aroma right off the top. It’s accompanied by a smooth aroma of whisky, and a slight smokiness. I detect some light notes of oak in the background, as well. The loose is quite soft, with a good moisture amount. I find it incredibly easy to pinch, and handbake! Once under the lip, I notice how soft and comfortable it is.

The flavor comes on pretty quickly as well, which is common of loose snus. The tobacco base is front and center. It is rich, dark, earthy, and slightly smoky. The whisky mingles in from the back in a smooth, present way. There are some light notes of oak in the mix, as well. It’s quite the flavor!

The strength varies depending on how big you bake your prilla. With a 1g, it’s about regular strength, and I find a satisfactory delivery and release of nicotine. The flavor hangs out for quite a while, up to almost an hour. Quite impressive!

Wrap-Up & Recommendation:

There are so few loose products made these days, so it’s nice to encounter a new-ish one from time to time. This one has the high quality of General Snus, but with the nice added taste of Swedish whisky! If you’re a loose snus fan, this is one you’ll want to check out!

This is a great, high quality snus. Whether you like whisky or don’t, this is one I suggest everyone try out who loves good, lössnus. I’m not a big whisky drinker myself, but I really enjoy the taste of this snus. It has the Swedish Match quality to it, but the inclusion of Mackmyra’s Swedish whisky!
