General Mackmyra Portion - Expert Review

Back in 2016, Swedish Match launched General Mackmyra. This snus is a collaboration between Swedish Match and the popular Swedish whisky-maker, Mackmyra. This General snus comes in two formats: original portion, and lös! The lös is quite good, but today we’ll be talking about the portion variant. General Mackmyra Portion was made by Master Blenders from Swedish Match Lars Jonsson and Mattias Schemer and the master blender from Mackmyra, Angela D’Orazio. It is flavored with Mackmyra's flavorful Svensk Ek whisky.

When you open the can, the aroma that comes through is quite nice. There is a nice aroma of whisky, accompanied by a rich, dark tobacco presence. There are subtle notes of oak, along with a little smokiness. The portions are nice and plump. While most snus portions are under a gram, these are bigger, at 1.09g each! They’re nice and moist, and have a quick release of the flavor profile. The whisky and dark tobacco pair very well in the flavor profile. The notes of oak and smoke that come through provide a nice compliment to the whisky taste, and the rich tobacco presence.

In the strength, this one feels a little over regular strength, but only by a tad. It’s not that much stronger. It has a steady, comfortable release of nicotine, as well. The flavor lasts a good amount of time, usually hanging out for about 45-50 minutes, on average!

There are so few whisky snus products on the market, and due to the absence of Islay Whisky Portion and the discontinuing of Crafted Snus Whisky, this is the only whisky snus on the market that comes in the portion format. That makes this one truly one of a kind. It’s quite the flavorful snus, and one that any snus lover should check out!

I like this snus from time to time. While it’s not something I’d use full time, I find I do get a craving for it from time to time. If you’re a whisky lover, this is one you’ll want to check out. It has the same high quality of General Snus, but with the unique added flavor of Swedish whisky!
