General Wintergreen White Portion - Expert Review

For many, General Snus was their first introduction to Swedish Snus. General Wintergreen White Portion is one that’s widely available in the US, and one that many use as their all day, every day snus. Wintergreen is a pretty American flavor, however I have encountered a few over the years internationally who are familiar with it. It makes sense that Swedish Match introduced this product, because it blends the traditional, classic, American taste of wintergreen with the high quality, premium nature of Swedish Match snus.

When you open the can, you’ll immediately encounter the present aroma of wintergreen. It has a slight sweetness to it, as well. You’ll notice the portions are arranged in a swirl, or a spiral. This is what is known as the "Star Formation”, and is usually reserved for Swedish Match premium white portion products. Ordinarily I suggest fluffing these, or rolling them around in the fingers. However, General Wintergreen has a tendency to burst open at the side-seams, so if you do this I suggest being gentle.

There's something about the wintergreen oils that causes the fibers of the portion material to loosen on the sides. There is a subtle cooling presence in the lip, and I find the portions to be soft, semi-moist, and comfortable under the upper lip. The flavor profile is of course straight-up, present wintergreen. It is subtly sweet in nature, but it’s predominantly that present flavor profile of American wintergreen. The nicotine strength feels to be about the regular level, and has a steady, stable release of nicotine. The flavor lasts up to an hour, sometimes just a little bit more.

With wintergreen snus products, this is one of the top sellers in the world of snus. It’s a favorite of people who enjoy the wintergreen profile. Mainly, because it captures the flavor of wintergreen, but delivers it in a premium, top-shelf product due to Swedish Match's high standards for their snus products. It is a wintergreen-lovers wintergreen product, from top to bottom, and from start to finish.

I’m not the biggest wintergreen fan, personally. I know a lot of people enjoy wintergreen, but it's never been my cup of tea. For me, when I do get a rare craving for wintergreen, I tend to reach for Jakobsson's Wintergreen, because I enjoy that one more. However, most of my friends who enjoy wintergreen snus tend to be partial to this one, so this is certainly a more popular, well liked product amongst those who enjoy the wintergreen flavor profile.
